Special Exhibition at Sprengel Museum Hannover

Visitors are already looking forward to the exhibition "Marc, Macke and Delaunay. The Beauty of a Fragile World (1910-1914)". From March 29th to July 19th the museum shows around 90 paintings and about 100 water colours by Franz Marc, August Macke and Robert Delaunay. The exhibition focuses on a very intense creative period of the 3 expressionist friends in the years 1910-1914. During this comparatively short period Marc and Macke who died in World War One produced their artistic lifework. Delaunay established the basis for his further opus.Franz Marc and August Macke met in Munich in 1910. Macke was fascinated by Marc's works. From a first visit to Marc's studio developed a deep friendship. Two years later the two artists met Delaunay in Paris. Despite several difficulties such as financial straits and language barriers all 3 expressionists were united by their arts, especially the topics light, its fragmentation and colour contrasts. Nevertheless, each single one of them developed his own style.Numerous companions and friends played an important role for the exchange of ideas between Marc, Macke and Delaunay, acting as mediators between different forms of art and languages. Amongst them are Sonia Delaunay. Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky as well as members of "Der Blaue Reiter". The exhibition also pays tribute to them.Contact and further information:Sprengel Museum HannoverKurt-Schwitters-Platz30169 HannoverTel: +49 (0)511 168 43875Fax: +49 (0)511 168 45093Opening hours:Tuesday 10.00 - 20.00Wednesday-Sunday 10.00 - 18.00Closed on MondaysOpen 10.00 - 18.00 on the following holidays:April 12th and 13thMay 1st, 21st and 31stJune 1st
